ohhhh boy, winter horse returns

Lucy was FRESH tonight. It was cold and windy outside and a lot was going on. She was spooky and very reactive. She lost her footing just slightly at one point and threw a huge fit. She threatened to rear several times and kicked out, too. I almost want to run a one-week course of GastroGard in case her tummy is bothering her a bit. Granted, she could have just been off her rocker since it was freezing cold and windy and the 4-wheeler was zooming around...

Anyway, here's a video:

  2. Holy cow, what a temper tantrum. You have a great seat.

I read a vet article that said it's a good idea to give GastroGard to susceptible horses whenever they're stressed - trailering, big weather change, etc. Since Paj had ulcers in January and has coliced in the past, I asked my own vet, and he agreed it's a good idea for me. Paj gets half a tube on the days when I worry.

  3. Just a wee bit fresh and strong! You do a very good job with her. Every TB I have ever had has days when the weather is like that and they say 'I'm not going forward at all if I can't just bolt like a crazy thing.'

  5. Excellent riding job. You looked calm and relaxed while she was loosing it. I'm sure that is exactly what she needs..I liked the patting you even gave her a few seconds after her spazz to encourage and reward the good behavior. Well done!!

  6. At the very least the gastro guard WONT hurt her. I use that, then for maintenace use the Gastra FX from Omega Alpha, my horses is a totally different animal and put on almost 200 lbs. He no longer does the mouth thing in the barn and overall much happier.
