Some days I go to get Lucy out of her paddock and she's got her halter over one ear and hanging off her face. Other days the halter is still in perfect form but laying on the ground in the middle of her paddock. Since we've added a fly mask into the mix, I'll sometimes find her like this:
The good news is that she seems to be totally fine now. She trotted out sound yesterday but I chose to give her an extra day off just to make sure she was 100%, and my plan was to ride her this morning before work. I do the overnight on the ambulance on Wednesdays so I have to go early in the morning to do her stall, and the barn owner brings her in for me in the afternoon. Well this morning I was running behind so by the time I cleaned her stall and did everything else I had to do, I didn't have time to ride. So she gets another easy day today, and I'll ride tomorrow.
When my mare was Lucy's age, she did the same thing. She'd go out with a halter and a couple of hours later it would be no where to be seen. My trainer had this hideous red halter that was too small for Promise's still-growing face, but it was the *only* one she could not get out of, so she got to wear it until she learned that she had to remain dressed if she went out that way! I gave up on the fly bonnet I got her about 3 years ago, when she managed to lose it somewhere in a paddock...I never did find it!
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny. Maybe they just get bored and therefore have time and energy to cook some schemes up. I'm just happy she's not a blanket destroyer.
ReplyDeleteShe's never been a blanket destroyer either, but she could get out of those, too, if I put a sheet on her to keep her clean the night before a show, lol.
ReplyDeleteHaha! That looks familiar. My mare HATES bugs, so I got her a cute flymask with ears to keep the gnats out. What does she do? Why, let the boys undress her and lose the mask, of course.
ReplyDeleteLittle hussy.
I'm sure she won't mind the day off and you can be back to work in no time.
