and then we were flying!

I was supposed to have a lesson yesterday but at the last minute it had to be rescheduled. I had been looking forward to it but I wasn't upset. I decided to ride anyway, and warmed Lucy up on the lunge line. In retrospect, I should have made her go in side reins and really asked her to work a little bit before getting on, but I didn't. She was silly on the lunge and since she never really worked out of it, she was silly under saddle. I sure learned MY lesson hehehehe.

Stills:

I was definitely staring at the ground in this photo, thinking "I'm gonna eat it!",
but I managed to sit back up and hang on.

I really like this one! She can be so lovely.

Honestly, I'm really proud of the way I rode. I hung on for dear life, kept my heels jammed down, chanted "I will not fall off! I will NOT fall off!" in my head, got her nose up from between her front knees, and pushed her on.

AND we ended on a good note and I gave her a pat.

And then I went out and had a margarita. No, seriously.

  1. So fresh! Silly mare. Good for you for sticking with her. Margarita was definitely a good call!

  2. Good god, woman. I'm speechless. Great riding. Hope the margarita was nice and stiff, lol. Lucy, well, I'd say she needs a beating, but I'm afraid someone might take it the wrong way, and of course I don't mean literally, lol.

  3. I would have opted for a few tequila shots myself. She can really spook/buck/tuck can't she?!
I'm wondering why.....is she just spooking? Seems with her ears being back maybe something is up, somethings bothering her? I knw you suspect ulcers, do you still think that? Or maybe its just her personality...spirited!
Either way, way to ride through that!

  4. nope, pretty sure she was just being a gigantic witch. she was "spooking" at something that didn't exist outside because the indoor's side entrances were open. Unfortunately for her she will not always have the safety net of the indoor walls, since I plan on riding her outside as soon as the footing is good enough to do so. Little Princess is going to have to get over herself soon.

  6. I love the way you ride that mare! :) Horses like that teach you so much. It's been a long time since I've had the pleasure of riding one. I love her! Once you channel that energy and athleticism, man, the sky's the limit!
