54" of win

When I bought Lucy, she wore a 48" girth that was almost too big for her. She was so skinny! Gradually, she gained weight and we moved up to a 50" girth, then a 52" girth. Earlier in this week, I got tired of fighting with the 52" girth to get it buckled up, because she has gained so. much. weight!!

So, I went out and bought this bad boy:

54" of WIN
I felt like I had won a marathon when I walked out of Dover. I am just so thrilled at how well Lucy is doing. I know it may seem stupid to some people, but having to buy a new girth because the old one is too small for my "hard keeper" means that I am really doing something right!

I had a superb ride tonight - ironically I didn't use my new girth ;) because I rode in Lauren's bareback pad. I am kind of a bareback pad skeptic but this one is so awesome. It has a suede seat and is quite minimalistic so it doesn't get in your way, but given the fact that I haven't ridden bareback in ages, I wanted to play it "safe".

Lucy was such a good girl. Here's some video:

  1. It might just be me, but, I don't see a video link...I am glad you have been able to get the weight on Lucy, I know it can be a real puzzle for some.

  2. What kind of bareback pad is it?

I don't see a link either. Good job on putting and keeping weight in your hard keeper!

  3. I'm pretty sure it's a Thinline pad (although it's missing the tag) and it really is awesome. It's super comfy and surprisingly grippy too. I LOVE it!

  5. Yay! Congratulations on your excellent horse keeping!

You don't need no stinkin' saddle.

  6. I was thinking holy crap that is a big girth! I use a 32 inch girth, then I smacked my self in the head...have a dressage saddle with a dressage girth.LOL!

  7. Lucy seems very comfy in the bareback pad. I wonder if your regular saddle is slipping to the side and pinching her. I notice sometimes in your videos that after a jump, etc, one stirrup is lower than the other and that's when she gets "witchy." breast collar, perhaps?

It's nice to see her so fat n sassy, happy!

  8. That is awesome. Houston was in a 50" girth when I brought him home in February and is now in a 54". What a big change- glad she is doing so well!

  9. LOVELY, I do love a nice bareback ride. Don't you feel so much more connected with her? We too, need to be moving up in girth size. Our 48" is literally on the last holes on each side which is a stupid thing to do.

  10. I realize that I'm years behind, but I'm a stickler about reading blogs start to finish. I just wanted to say that I have that bareback pad and it is wonderful. I have yet to ride in it, but once I put it on Gambler and the girth/cinch was barely even touching his belly. He spooked at something, threw a bucking fit, and when he stopped, the pad hadn't moved.
