snuggle session

I really hoped I could ride today but Lucy's cut still needs time to heal. It looks very healthy and very clean, with no sign of infection, but it hasn't filled in at all. I am sad we'll be missing some unseasonably nice weather this week, but I am not going to ride her before she's completely healed.

I AM contemplating trying her in a hackamore, though. Any thoughts?

Anyway, because I couldn't ride, Lucy got a good grooming and then a 1/2 hour snuggle session with Kenny while I cleaned her paddock.

poor Cairo!

yes Cairo, we know you're jealous.

I took this photo and then said, "ok, now please get out from under my horse!"
Silly men...

  1. Cute, cute pictures! Only thing I've ever heard about hackamores is steering can be a bit questionable at times but give it a whirl. If you're in a ring/indoor, the rail will help with the steering. Have fun and hope Lucy's mouth heals quickly!

    1. Steering I'm not too worried about; it's the stopping that I want to make sure is possible! lol. It's worth a shot, right?

  3. Great pics! I use a hackamore on Tucker and he LOVES it! I can't use it all the time because he starts to lean on it, but it's a great tool to have in our box of tricks. Let us know how it goes :)

  4. I ride my ottb in his halter all the time:) Of course, he is super voice command; I have never had a brake issue in it, believe it or not!

  5. What about doing some lunge line lessons with her in a halter? Take it back to basics and perfect your already really great position? My friends and I lunge each other not infrequently keeps me honest:)
